Mmm Japanese Chocolate

Perhaps these Smart phones are not so Smart?

I thought I would start today with another example of "Engrish" which I found while shopping at an electronics store."Choice your Smart phone" This mistake I am a bit suprised at because really shouldn't big cell phone companies have enough money to check if their English is correct or not before launching a nationwide campaign?

Mmm Japanese Chocolate!

I must admit since moving to Japan my chocolate intake has increased considerably, yes I know everything in moderation but to justify my addiction I tell myself it is ok because it is comfort food.
In my opinion Japanese really do make great chocolate, but ofcourse that is subjective.

If you would like to try some Meiji White , Black or Himilk chocolates I have now listed them on Ebay.Click on the following links to purchase.

                                                               Meiji White Chocolate

Milk Chocolate (coming soon)

This includes 2 of each type of the chocolate bars from the above picture.

Remember Just Mention the blog to me and I will throw in some free candy with your order.

Anyone for some Acid Milk?

Today I thought I would bring you another example of Japanese "Engrish"

An interesting thing about Japanese English or Engrish is that Japanese love to abbreviate ,and this does not stop with Japanese. They love to abbreviate English words too..expecially ones that you can't or shouldn't abbreviate.

Here is an example ; (Which is one of my favourites)

After being in Japan for over 5 years I have seen this van on many occasion but have never been able to take a snapshot of it.Finally earlier this year I was able to take this photo.

Does Acid Milk sound appealing to anyone? I think it is supposed to suggest it has Amino acid milk products.. but with out the Amino ..it suggests a very painful drinking experience.

Acid Milk and cookies?

Another example of an abbreviation that should never have happened is the abbreviation of "Game Centre" which ends up sounding like "Gay Say" ..took me a while to catch on to that one when I was hearing "Gay Say" everywhere from children to teenagers .
I was thinking "Geh Sei(gay say) What?"  though apparently that is just a more lazy version of the Gehsen.げえせん.

If you know of any other funny examples of "Engrish" please feel free to send them to me.I am happy to publish photos or share news about amusing abbreviations.

Candy News

If you love Japanese chocolate you can now get a variety set available from my ebay store.

This assortment included 8 bars . 2 White chocolate , 2 HiMilk (creamier than regular milk chocolate), Milk chocolate and Meiji Black dark chocolate.

Japanese chocolate is so creamy and really melts as real chocolate should.A lot of chocolates these days use inferior ingredients which result in chocolate that no longer tastes like chocolate and does not melt properly due to use of palm oils.
I love Japanese chocolate !

Follow the link to purchase them.

I will be listing more candy and snack items in the near future , so if you do not see what you want let me know.

If you mention this blog on your purchase I will put in some free Japanese Candy.

News Corner

Here are a few interesting articles I found on Japan, from around the web.

Quirky.

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/asia/news/article.cfm?l_id=3&objectid=10803249  "Smart Budgie"

Technology.

http://newsonjapan.com/html/newsdesk/article/95860.php  Biometric palm reading ATM's.I
wonder if people can use hand prints or what are the security measures involved, I have seen
some disturbing things in movies with eye scan security or thumb pad security.

Society.

http://newsonjapan.com/html/newsdesk/article/96231.php Parasite problem , it's not what you think!

Environment

http://edition.cnn.com/2012/05/07/world/asia/japan-nuclear-energy-ends/index.html?hpt=hp_t3
Japan has shut down the last online nuclear reactor..and I still have electricity! I think it really shows
that Japan had some over capacity with 49  nuclear reactors offline and still the country functioning.
There must have been a lot of back room deals and favours to get many of them built in the first place.
I really hope Japan puts more effort into finding alternate sources of power generation, though it will take time, effort and a lot of money to move away from nuclear energy.

Look closely at this photo, above the draw handle on this kitchen cabinet. It says "Pain Village"

I think it was supposed to say "Pine" as the draws are wooden.

News Corner

I would like to share this article I found on on CNNgo .as it refers to Osaka .It may be interesting for those who enjoy shopping. Many people who travel to Japan think that Tokyo is where it is at, but this article suggests otherwise.

I may be a bit biased after living in Osaka for the past 4 years, but I hope you enjoy the article :D
